Different shades of one color

Are you ready for a New Year party?

In Russia it is a big deal to celebrate the New Year. That's why today I went to the King of Prussia Mall to find something special for that night. I love this Mall because it is all about fashion for me. This place has a big concentration of the most popular brands in the world. I can walk here forever!

Today I want to show you how I matched three different undertones together - a necklace, a bag and shoes. They all have different shade, but the same main color (burgundy).  The shoes are real burgundy, the necklace is vinous and the bag is violet. I really like how they look together, even though they are not the same.

Dress that speaks for itself

Have you noticed that some clothes in our closets don't need to be accessorized or mixed with other items? They stand out alone, without any help. Today I wanted to show another dress from my wardrobe in three different looks, but I realized that this dress is too individualistic to mix it with anything else.

I tried to put a couple of jackets on, sparkly jewelry, different styles of shoes to dress it up or down, but it didn't go with any of those tricks. It is good enough by itself, it doesn't need anything extra to look better.

I don't need to do any work to make this dress look more interesting because it already speaks for itself well enough! Just a simple pair of earrings, black shoes and a bag and I am ready to conquer the world.

A city lover

I've always wanted to live in a big city. I was a city woman back in Russia and I still miss that lifestyle. I don't mind when it gets too noisy or too crowded,  when I need to walk blocks after blocks or take public transportation. The big cities always make me feel very inspired. I always start believing that everything is possible if I really want something in case I am ready to work hard towards my dreams. I just feel like I belong there.

Today we went to Philadelphia for a little stroll and even though the weather wasn't that nice we still enjoyed the city a lot. I am impressed with how many beautiful places are hidden in our city. Every turn and corner have something to show. We should come here more often and discover more new areas in the city.
Do you like to live in the big cities or in the suburbs?

A little bit of bright

I've never divide my clothes by color for each season. It just has never came up in my mind that clothes colors for fall and spring are supposed to be different. But couple of years ago I've noticed that store displays for the fall season are darker and deeper, than for spring. They have darker yellow and green, burgundy, olive and brown colors. And I started following these rules, because it looked right and appropriate to me.

But today, I don't know why, I picked a a light green leather jacket in my wardrobe which I usually wear in spring. All of a sudden I decided that before a long gray winter time I should wear something really bright to remind myself that dark colors are not forever. I just wanted to cheer myself up a little bit.

Do you usually divide your clothes by seasons?

Classic item

Going through my wardrobe I realized that it contains a lot of knitted items. I didn't even expect that I have so many. Probably, the main reason is - I am always cold. I like to wrap myself in warm, comfortable knitwear and feel cozy in it.

It is especially relevant for the fall we have this year - mild, soft, sunny and pretty warm. It is already a third decade of November and I haven't worn any warm coats yet, only light outwear and jackets. Today I am wearing one of my favorite cardigans.

I bought it many years ago when I worked at Marshall's. I cleaned aisles of sweaters and my eyes stopped at this cardigan. It looked different from other items, totally different quality even from a distance. I took it in my hands and looked closer. Of course, it was 100% Merino wool, made in Italy. I loved it from the first sight and I knew it would fit me perfect. I thought about it for a minute and hanged it back thinking that I don't have extra money for this purchase. But couple of days later I ended up buying it.

I decided that it is a good investment because this cardigan is very classic and it is going to serve me for many years. And I was right... Even eight years later it is still in trend. I think it is very elegant and stylish. Every time when I put it on I feel special!

Low rated sweater

As days are getting shorter, it’s harder to take pictures outside. Evgeny and I have full-time jobs plus his schedule is not always the same, and by the time we get home, the sun almost goes down. That’s why today’s session we had at home and there probably will be more of these to come. And even though I don’t like it, there is nothing I can do about it, this season I need to be more patient.

I bought this sweater last spring on a big sale. It had a very low rating from people’s reviews, most of which were about shedding. The customers were saying that all their underneath tops were covered in black threads by the end of day of wearing that knit jacket. But  I still ordered it, I just fell in love with the color, and price also was very attractive, only $19.98 instead of $148.00.

When I got it, I turned it inside out right away and started to comb the sweater with a big massage brush. Yes, there was a lot of threads, but after this procedure there wasn’t any falling threads anymore. I tried it on and was so happy that I didn’t listen to anyone and took this risk. This sweater is cozy, soft and very, very warm. But what I love the most is that this sweater looks very unique, I’ve got a lot of compliments on it.

My new style of shoes

As you all have probably noticed, I am a big lover of high heels. But when a big trip comes up it is impossible to walk blocks after blocks in uncomfortable shoes. To be honest – sneakers are not my style even though they are in trend now. I still prefer more elegant shoes and boots. This fall I was looking for something trendy and comfortable at the same time.

One evening we stopped by at TJMaxx, Evgeny was looking for some earphones for his phone and I was just walking around waiting for him. My eyes caught a pair of shoes, and even though they were not my style at all I decided to try them on anyway. Not my shape, not my type of heel, but surprisingly I liked how they looked on me and one big bonus – they were so comfortable.

I hesitated, but Evgeny said right away: “Let’s buy them and try them on at home again. If you don’t like them – just return them.” It was a great idea! Of course, they stayed in my closet. And last weekend I already got to wear them on our trip to Harrisburg. We were on our feet the whole day, and all I want to say is they are ones of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned!

A dubious item

I was getting prepared for my birthday dinner with my girlfriends and couldn’t make a decision about the black belt I put on my waist.  I was trying to put it on and take it off a few times, because I was in doubt. And finally, I left it on.

I went outside and Evgeny took a few pictures of my outfit.  While I was making final preparations, he exported my pictures on the computer and showed me the result. I was shocked… The whole photo session was ruined by only one item - the black belt.  I took it off right away and added one of my favorite necklaces instead. Now I liked how I looked, but I didn’t have any time left to take another round of the pictures with the right look. It was very upsetting.

But I decided to show my bad choice anyway, and now you can see how one little wrong  thing can play against us. I replaced only one item and got a totally different look – sharp, complete and stylish.

A coat dress

When I tried this dress on in a store I was really surprised by the fabric it was made from - thick, warm coat fabric. I've never seen dresses like that before. I was in doubt because I had no idea how to wear this coat dress with the short sleeves... And finally I decided to buy and try it on one more time at home. I liked the style a lot and how it fit me.

The only one thing I didn't like how it looked on me by itself, but as soon as put a pink cashmere turtleneck underneath it turned out like a great ensemble. I was so happy that I didn't give up on this dress in the store. Maybe it is not an office outfit because of its warmth, but it is definitely a great outside, street ensemble.

And what I love the most about this dress - I don't need any outwear on top... In this beautiful, fall days I can walk around wearing the dress only! I look different from other people who wear coats and jackets, but feel the same - warm, cozy and appropriate for the fall season.

New jacket

In my previous life (before I moved to America) I used to wear jackets all the time. Suits with pants and skirts, long jackets, short jackets, tailored jackets, with blouses underneath and without..., all different kinds of shapes and styles. I just loved jackets and always thought that they add confidence in me and make me look serious and professional.

But since I came to the USA I stopped wearing them. Isn't strange? I don't know why... Looking at myself now I definitely can say that my style has changed a lot. Today I have a lot of knitwear and only a couple jackets in my closet and even them I hardly wear.

The jacket I am wearing today I bought couple of days ago and at first wasn't sure if I liked it. I just don't wear them anymore. I tried it with different outfits and surprisingly it looked well almost with everything - with dressy pants and with jeans, shirts and tops. And the most important thing - it is stretchy which gives me freedom of movement. And at the same time I found this item very stylish and sharp.

Of course, I will keep it in my wardrobe!

One dress - three looks

I wish I would have more dresses like I am wearing today. It is very cozy, warm and stylish at the same time. Sometimes all I need is just feel relaxed wearing something comfortable, even if I go to a party. There is no belts, tight silhouette, or not stretching the fabric. It takes the form of my body and lets me breath, and at the same time it gives me the options to go up and down depending on situations.

Today I want to show you three different varieties how to style a sweater dress.

Mother's Day present

Do you have in your closet any items which make you happy every time you put them on? I do! There may not be too many, but today I am wearing one of those pieces from my wardrobe which makes me smile every time I decide to wear it. I love this dress a lot.

I remember I found this dress on-line at Macy’s and fell in love right away. It was a little bit pricy for me, that’s why I decided to wait until it goes on sale. Coupons unfortunately didn’t work on this brand. I checked it every day for almost a month and it just would not go on sale. I was very upset because I wanted it so bad.

But one day my husband asked me: “What would you like to get for Mother‘s Day?”  My answer followed immediately: “The Dress!”  The problem was solved. I got a great present from Evgeny, and every time when I put it on I remember this story.

Day in Baltimore

It was one of those days which, I wish, would never end.  The weather was unbelievably comfortable, Inner Harbor (the place we were visiting) was absolutely gorgeous, and we, my husband and I, were infinitely happy to spend our Saturday together.

Today I want to show you another black and white outfit I was wearing in Baltimore. I found it very interesting how the bottom lines of the shirt and the sweater repeated each other, I've never mixed them together before. Also I was surprised that these dressy pants looked pretty good without heels. Usually I wear them for more formal events, never for travel.

But in the morning, looking at myself in the mirror, I realized that I created a very interesting traveling look - snug and a little bit dressy at the same time - in which I could walk for miles and then have a great dinner at a presentable restaurant.

This blog definitely makes me work around my wardrobe!

Great find

Today I am wearing another piece from my daughter’s box – a dress. At first sight, I didn’t like it at all. I looked at that dress and thought: “How could she even spend money on this piece of junk? It looks cheap and the color reminds me of a uniform…”  But for some reason, I don’t remember why, I put it aside.

On one of the rainy days I went upstairs and decided to look closer what I have in my closet for the fall season, and I found this dress. I decided to try it on, being sure, that it is not going to work for me in any way. But, as soon as, I put it on, I realized that I kind of like it. I added the leopard printed shoes, a faux fur vest, a little bit of jewelry… And surprisingly, it turned out like a very interesting outfit for me. The dress didn’t look cheap anymore.

Conversely the color made my eyes brighter, the length made me look taller plus midi now is on trend, and the style of the dress made me feel very trendy.

My apology, Olga! Great choice, great taste!

Second Chance

I was going to throw this top away because I couldn’t find any reason to keep it. I haven’t worn it in a couple of years..., I just didn’t like how it looked on me. Every time when I tried to pair this item with any bottoms, there was always something I didn’t like - the proportions, or the length, or a combination of colors. It didn't adorn me.

Two weeks ago I started changing my wardrobe to the fall and winter seasons and accidentally put the top and a skirt I am wearing today on a couch next to each other, and to my big surprise I liked how it looked together. I tried them on right away and realized that I just created a new look by accident.

First of all, I extended the season for the skirt which I almost hid until next spring, because I thought it was a summer piece. And, second of all, this top got a chance to live in my closet for a little bit longer. I love when it happens!

Boho-style jeans

Every time when I put on these jeans I ask myself: "Are they appropriate for my age?" Even though they fit perfectly, sometimes I feel like their style is created for younger girls. But at the same time, I love how they look on me. I wear them with pleasure and feel very confident.

It has never been my style before, but now I am really into the boho-style items in my closet. I've noticed that I started paying more and more attention to these pieces. I would say that boho-style makes me feel free and stylish at the same time, and I would like to have more pieces like that in my wardrobe.

What do you think about me wearing these jeans? Should I do it at my age?

Perfect match

I love when Olga (my daughter) sends me boxes with the clothes she doesn't want anymore, as it means that I can find something for myself in them. Even though we are twenty one years apart in our age and we have totally different styles, I can still find something wearable for myself. Not too often, but sometimes there can be very important pieces for my wardrobe, like this sweater...

Friend's Birthday

Most of my clothes I can easily convert from an office look to going-out look. Sometimes it is a big sparkly pair of earrings or a necklace, sometimes it is with a dressier pair of pants.

For example, the whole this outfit,  besides the pants, I wore to work a couple of days ago, and when I was preparing for a restaurant today, all I did was just choose a different pair of pants.

For a birthday lunch it was enough to look well-dressed and at the same time feel comfortable and appropriate at day time. Even when I stopped by at the Mall to get a present for my friend I didn't feel that I look out of place.

One dress - three looks

This dress has lately been the biggest disagreement between Evgeny and me. He found it at the Anthropologie store and asked me to try it on. I did it and I didn’t like how it looked on me. I said that I don’t want it, but when I left the fitting room he responded right away that we are going to buy this dress, he liked it so much. I started arguing with him that it’s not my style, I don’t know how to make it work for me… Unfortunately, all my reasons were hopeless. He just took that dress and went to the cashier.

I was thinking: “Well… I’ll let him buy this dress now, and I will return it later”.  We came home and I even didn’t take it out of the bag probably for a month. But couple of days ago I decided to try it on one more time and it turned out that I liked it. I tried different looks and surprisingly it worked for me pretty well.

Of course, every print takes more time to figure out how to match it with other items. Unlike bold colors, it doesn’t go with everything, but there is still variety of choices.

1.City look
Practical, snug, dynamic

Wrong length

Today I want to talk a little bit about the length of pants, because the wrong length can ruin the whole look, no matter how beautiful each piece is. I bought these pants recently and didn’t get a chance to try them on at home and look at myself closer. And it didn't take long to realize that the result was not a desirable one - I was in the middle of Manhattan wearing pants which were way too long. It wasn’t the end of the world, but I definitely didn’t enjoy my look, I felt like it didn’t belong to me.

In this case I said to myself – "Choose the shoes with 1 inch higher heels or cut 1 inch off, but never ever wear them like you did it today." The wrong length does me a disfavor!

Evening in Brooklyn

I feel the best when my family gets together.  The biggest support and the deepest understanding, they come from my daughter and my husband. They are my island of peace and security. Sometimes, I believe Evgeny and Olga can read my mind, which makes our talks very easy and sincere. And sometimes, I even don’t need to say or explain anything - they still know what is going on with me. That’s why, every time when Olga invites us to spend couple of days together at her apartment in Brooklyn, I always say “Yes” right away.

This time I didn’t bring anything fancy or trendy clothes, I didn’t want to put on any heels or create a stylish look. I wanted some rest inside and out, including my outfit.  I needed comfort and joy. And I made a great decision by choosing items made with natural fabric. Linen is probably one of my favorites.  I always feel different when wearing natural clothes; it always gives more rest and snug.

To me - natural fabrics, even cotton or linen, always make any item look more expensive. I try not to wear synthetics. No matter how interesting and stylish a model is, synthetic fabrics make it look cheap. It could be a combination of natural and synthetic fabrics, but not 100% of synthetics.

The Dress

Today I want to show you a dress I found on Pinterest of one of the fashion bloggers I follow. As soon as I saw it I lost my cool. It was said that she bought it at Loft. I opened the Loft website right away and found that they were all sold out. I checked "Find in store" section and surprisingly  there was only one dress in my size at Shoppers at Brinton Lake Shopping Center, PA. I jumped in a car and in 30 minutes was there.

Yes! There was the only one dress left waiting just  for me and it fit me perfectly. I loved it so much and no matter how much it cost I decided to buy it anyway...

Can you imagine my surprise when a cashier checked the price and it was only $17.00? I couldn't believe it! Honestly, I would pay even a full price at this time, it looked like a gift for me.

I love this dress very much! Every time when put it on I feel very festive. When I wear it, I always get a lot of compliments from people on the streets. Probably because I look confident, it is definitely the item that belongs to me.

The Party Shoes

This pair of shoes stayed in my closet for at least five years, and every time when I am trying to get rid of them... I simply cannot. I know, they are out of style, maybe a little bit too girly, but when I look at them, they make me smile! Bright, fun - these shoes are a real statement of any outfit I put on. I would never wear them to work, but for a night out this pair is perfect.

Today I had that moment again when I almost threw them away, but before that, I just wanted to try them on one last time.  And, of course, as soon as put them on, I decided right away that they have to spend this Friday night with me. I spontaneously changed the whole outfit and kept the shoes on for the night.

By the time I got home, the decision was made - I will keep those shoes for another year. I am not ready to say "Goodbye" yet!

Last days of summer

I know that after Labor Day we are not supposed to wear white, but what can I do if it's my favorite color? White goes well with every color I know, and I love any combination with it. In my opinion white makes every outfit fresher and more festive, adds brightness and youth.

Last days of summer I really try to spend more time outside wearing something light and feeling relaxed. I chose a white top and bag right before I put them away until the next spring.

Today I had a free morning, and my husband and I decided to go to Media to have a cup of coffee... Something I still miss in the US is going to a small, cozy, quiet cafe and getting a tiny china cup of wonderful, well-made espresso. Sitting outside and having a light chat with some friends or family members. No food or dessert, just the perfect little cup of coffee!

Forgotten item

Do you check clearance areas in the stores? Usually I don't, because my thought is - if nobody wanted it why would I want it? But couple of times my eyes caught pretty interesting pieces there. One of them was pants which I am wearing today. They were on final sale at Gap Store, non-returnable, just for $6.00. I tried them on, they fit perfectly. But when I got home and put them on again, I found that the length looked really weird and none of the shoes matched with these pants. I hung them in my closet and successfully forgot about them.

Recently I ordered a top on-line from Anthropologie (I am showing it today) and tried to pair it with skirts and pants from my wardrobe and surprisingly, one year later, I found these pants. I decided to play a little bit with the whole look. I matched them with different shoes, accessories, but something was still off until I rolled up the hems.

It turned out like a great casual look. Comfortable, relaxing and easy to wear. I liked both looks - with wedges and with heels. I think in both ways the whole look seems good.

Sailor style

Do you have in your wardrobe items that stay in there almost forever? Honestly, I do.  I have a few things that I cannot get rid of. One of them - a pair of pants I was wearing today. They have been with me for almost ten years and I still can't let go of them. Simply, I love this piece of my clothing and all these years every time I put them on, I feel well-dressed and stylish. And they still look very trendy and modern, don't they? I call that type of clothes 'ageless'!

Evgeny (my husband) bought these pants at T.J.Maxx when we just came to the USA and I fell in love with them right at that moment. Great quality of fabric, very well made, perfect fit, classic design...

Even though I am a kind of person who loves to update my closet pretty often, I still have my favorites which stay with me a very long time. And I still enjoy wearing them a lot! Do you have any clothes that stay in your wardrobe for ten years?

Perfect length

I bought this skirt last year on a Christmas sale and thought it is going to be a one-time-wear item. But later I realized that I really like it, especially for the summer season.  It goes almost with every top from my wardrobe and it has the perfect length which means I can wear it with different style of shoes.

Today I want to show how I style it with flats. I think it looks perfect. I found that not every skirt goes well with flats, it is all about the proportions. But in my opinion, the length of a skirt which just covers my knees looks perfect with every kind of shoes - flats, keds, wages, heels...

This look is very comfortable and appropriate for work.

Almost Friday

Couple of days ago my girlfriend and I decided to go to a sushi place for dinner to catch up. I had an hour after work until the time we were supposed to meet, that's why I stopped by the house and changed my work clothes. I have a dress code at work and when I get a chance to switch to something more comfortable I always do.

Jeans are usually my Friday and weekend uniform. But today I really wanted to feel relaxed, I didn't want to wear anything fashionable or fancy, even though I am all about it. Do you have days like that?

And today I just want to show how I prefer to wear low rise (mid-rise) skinny jeans. As I mentioned in the Black Jeans post, I always cover the waist and hips areas with right length of a shirt or a sweater.

I chose these shoes because even though they look very high they are still very snug and easy to wear.

One dress - three looks

I bought this dress at Anthropologie a couple of months ago. It was on a big sale and I got it only for $27.00. I love bright colors especially for summer time. I always feel lighter and fresher in white. I also think that light colors make me look younger.

Today I want to show three different outfits which I created based on this dress.

1.City walk.

Simple and Joyful

It's been very hot for the past few weeks; summer doesn't want to give up at all. In these kind of days I hardly can stay outside. It's very hard to find the right clothes in order to feel cool and breezy. When my husband suggested to take a walk or drive somewhere, at first, I didn't know what to say... Who wants to go anywhere in 90 degrees outside?

But, instead of complaining that it was a bad idea, I went to my closet and found a perfect dress for day like today. Light, simple, flattering, airy..., no belts, no tension at all. Of course I'll go now!

We decided to go to Cape May, NJ and take a little stroll. I love this town. It always makes me fell very happy. In addition, the yellow color of my dress added joy and enhanced my sunny mood.

Black jeans

What could be simpler than buying a pair of jeans? They are everywhere in various styles, colors, lengths. Almost every brand produces them... All I need to do is just go to a store and get them! But as soon as I decided to replace an old pair, it didn't look so easy anymore.

The older I become, the more complicated it gets to find the perfect pair of jeans. Let's admit it - my body is not of a twenty-year-old anymore: my waist is not that thin, the lines of my hips are not that defined. Of course, it's not the end of the world and all I need to do is be more careful with style and fit.

First of all, I know - no low rise jeans for me. They make me look like a sausage, and also make my legs shorter. An awful picture! The only one option for wearing them is to pair them with unfitted top or sweater long enough to cover my problem areas.
Second of all, "NO" to the stretchy fabric. It doesn't keep my body in shape and looks very cheap after a couple of wears.
And the last tip is the fit. They have to fit perfect and comfortable, covering all problem zones and showing all best features

It took a while until I found the right pair of black jeans. High rise; slim; thick, good quality and a bit stretchy fabric; perfect fit and length. What more can I wish for?

Today I decided to wear all black, sometimes I like to cover myself in one color.

White and Black

I think black and white is my favorite combination of colors, and I am not just talking about my wardrobe. In real life that mix also has a meaning.  It was especially relevant when I was younger; it was very hard to admit that other colors also existed in my life - it was easier to put every person or situation through a black/white filter.

Well, then a lot of things happened in my life and I am not that strict anymore about the "black/white" rules, but I still sometimes follow them in my closet.

You will see a lot of outfits on me with only two colors involved. But I think it is not bad at all when we are talking about clothing and accessories.

Comfort and Quality

I bought this skirt last summer and wore it only once... I loved it a lot, but I couldn't find anything that would make it a complete ensemble. Sometimes it seems like the simplest thing at first, but when you try to put things together it doesn't look easy anymore. You just don't like it, period!

Last week I opened Macy's website and saw a top. It was the one! From the first look I knew it's going to work together perfectly. I ordered it right away.

Actually, you can't go wrong with Ralph Lauren! When I put this top next to the skirt I was very happy to see how they work together. They were perfect! I couldn't wait when I get a chance to walk this outfit.

Bright colors

I am originally from the south part of Russia. I would call it a resort area, because I used to live 50 miles away from the Black Sea. Have you ever noticed that people from  resorts love to wear bright colors? Maybe there is a lot of sun and warmth, or resort areas make people feel that it is time to relax and have fun...

I don't know, but once in a while, my southern blood reminds me where I am from, and in these moments I desperately need to put on something crazy.

Today, probably, is one of those days...  It might look a little bit too much, but it is exactly what I wanted! I've noticed that I am very dependent on the colors I am wearing, and sometimes the wrong color on me can make me sad.

New look with old dress

This dress I bought a year ago and got a chance to wear just once. I couldn't decide if it's my style or not... But today, with almost 100 degrees outside, I decided that this dress will be perfect for going out on a Friday night.

Light, very open and at the same time chic. When I put it on, all my doubts about the wrong style disappeared. I felt very confident and that it belongs to me. I will definitely keep it for a while in my closet.

In my opinion, the best way to check if you still want this item in your closet is to try it on with the right shoes, bag and accessories and look closely in the mirror. If you love your reflection - keep it, if you dislike it even a little bit - get rid of it right away! You will never rock it!

Saturday in Philadelphia

The dress I am wearing today I found on the Anthropologie website and it was love at the first look. I've been looking for something comfortable and stylish at the same time for a while and when I saw this cozy dress I realized - this is it! Of course, I wouldn't wear it to work, but for a city walk or a day on the shore with a snug pair of shoes, what could be better?

I love when style and comfort come together. It feels like I can walk for miles and enjoy myself wearing the right outfit, which is so important. And, even though, I am a big fan of high heels and office dress code, sometimes we all need some rest from being too professional and excessive.

      Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
