My way of choosing a coat

My daughter and I have been talking about updating her winter coats collection. She lives in New York and takes public transportation all the time, plus that city is pretty cold and windy at the winter season. That's why her coats collection is mostly grey and wind-protected. But lately, she decided to upgrade it for brighter and more stylish options.

I remember, two years ago I did the same thing with my coats. All my coats looked pretty worn out and outdated. I was on a hunt for my new coats the whole winter. I went online, created a wish list in every store where I found what I wanted, and added every coat I really liked. When it went on sale I ordered it right away.

When a chosen coat arrived in the mail, I paired it with all my winter garments and boots, looked at my reflection in the mirror very critically and intently, paid attention to every little detail, like length of sleeves, right shoulder width, quality of fabric, etc. And if I saw that the coat met all my requirements - it stayed in my closet.

I don't even know how many coats I sent back, but finally I ended up with something I really liked and have been wearing with pleasure. I love my every one of my coats. Maybe it sounds like a lot of work, but it is not like buying a tank top, where if I don't like it anymore, I can easily through away.

  1. That's ag idea to shop for a coat. Because I never can find a good one and now I have one that I actually do not like that much. I will do this next season! Your coat is very elegant!

  2. I agree with Nancy that finding a winter coat I like is difficult and so I tend to keep the coats I have for many years (I bought my gray wool coat in 1985!). I do need a new casual winter coat, and I love the one you are wearing. It can be very cold and windy in Michigan so I need a hood. Next year, I will be more diligent in looking for a new coat.

  3. I think it is a smart way to shop for something that is so useful and will typically last for a while. A coat can be such a great completer piece and serves not only as a fashion statement but as a very useful part of an outfit: warmth!
I bought a nice puffer with fur trim hood this year and love it. I know I will love it for years to come too!

  4. First of all that coat is all sorts of fabulous on you! I live in Boston and have an abundance of coats - some I need to rethink as they weren't very smart purchases :) I'll be using your tips! xo, Biana BlovedBoston

  5. Hi Tatiana
This is such an elegant and beautiful look! I love the faux fur and light grey color. I am hoping I can find a longer camel coat that I can wear with pants and dresses, something I can wear year after year. The red bag pops with this look and I love the leather gloves, so chic!
